This page explains what Kathari collects, why, who we share it with, and how you stay in control. Written in plain language, not boilerplate.

Information we collect
01We collect only what we need to run cleaning workflows for owners and cleaners. Most of it comes directly from you when you sign up, create a property, or do a cleaning job. A small amount is collected automatically when you use Kathari.
Account information
Your name, email address, hashed password, role (owner or cleaner), preferred language, and an optional phone number. If you sign in using a third-party sign-in option, we receive your name, email, and a stable identifier from that provider in place of a password.
Property and booking information (owners)
The properties you manage in Kathari: name, address, notes, time zone, and any check-in/checkout windows you set. All of this is entered by you.
If you connect an Airbnb calendar feed, we collect only what that feed shares: check-in date, check-out date, and the Airbnb booking reference code. We do not receive guest names, guest contact information, payment details, or any other booking metadata from Airbnb. Airbnb is currently the only short-term rental calendar source we integrate with.
You can also add booking details manually — for example a guest first name, a custom check-in time, or your own notes about the stay. Anything you add this way is stored on our servers as part of that booking record. See Who we share information with for how it's shared inside Kathari.
Cleaning job information
Scheduled jobs, assignments, the checklist for each job, condition ratings, flagged issues, and the photos cleaners upload as proof of work. Photos may include images of property interiors and any issues a cleaner flags. We store the photos, basic file metadata (size, hash, when taken), and which task they belong to.
Payment information
If you subscribe to a paid plan, we use a third-party payment processor to handle payments. Your card number is handled and stored by that processor on its own infrastructure; we receive only billing metadata (last four digits, brand, billing status). For owner-to-cleaner payouts, Kathari tracks who paid whom and when, but we do not move money between owners and cleaners — that happens off-platform.
External cleaners (text-invited)
If an owner invites a one-off cleaner without an account, we store that person's name, email, phone, and SMS consent state, so we can deliver the job link and respect their messaging preferences.
Device and technical information
When you use the web app or the iOS app, we automatically receive: IP address, browser or device type, app version, session activity, and the push-notification token your device gives us (so we can send notifications to your phone). We keep server logs to operate the service and investigate problems.
Communications
We keep a record of emails and SMS messages we send through Kathari (recipient, subject, delivery status) so we can troubleshoot delivery and respect opt-outs.
How we use information
02We use the information above to:
- Operate the service — create cleaning jobs, run checklists, store photo proof, share reports between owners and cleaners.
- Send transactional notifications (email, SMS, push) about jobs you participate in.
- Process subscription payments and keep billing records.
- Verify phone numbers and protect accounts from automated abuse.
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- Investigate security incidents, prevent fraud, and enforce our terms.
- Improve Kathari based on aggregated usage patterns and direct feedback.
We do not use your information to build advertising profiles. We do not train AI models on the contents of your cleaning jobs, photos, or messages.
What we don't do

- We don't share your information with advertisers, and we don't run advertising on Kathari.
- We don't run third-party analytics or behavioral tracking in our apps.

Data retention
06We keep your information for as long as your account is active. Cleaning jobs, reports, and photos remain in your account so you can refer back to them.
When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and your cleaning history within 30 days, except where we are required by law to keep certain records (for example, tax records of paid subscriptions, or security and abuse logs). Aggregated, non-identifying data may be retained.
Records held by our payment processor are retained per that provider's own policies and applicable financial regulations.
Your rights and choices
07You can do most of the following directly inside Kathari settings; the rest is one email away.
- Access and update. Edit your name, email, phone, and notification preferences from your settings page.
- Delete your account. Use the Delete Account page in settings, or write to [email protected].
- Export your data. Email us and we'll send you a copy of the information associated with your account in a portable format.
- Opt out of SMS. Reply STOP to any text message we send. You will continue to receive email notifications unless you opt out of those too.
- Email notifications. Adjust which notifications you receive from your settings page or via the unsubscribe link in any non-essential email.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request a copy, request correction or deletion, and opt out of "sales" or "sharing" of personal information. We don't sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise your rights, email [email protected].
European Economic Area, UK, and similar jurisdictions. If GDPR or an equivalent law applies to you, you have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection. Our lawful basis is the performance of a contract with you (operating the service), our legitimate interest in running and securing the service, and your consent where we ask for it (for example, SMS). You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International data transfers
08Kathari is operated from the United States. If you use the service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
Security
09We follow industry-standard practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular software updates. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever experience a breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by law.
Children
10Kathari is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
11We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in Kathari or by email. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
